Four weeks ago I ordered customised cotton face masks from a small business here in Singapore. I designed the masks myself. Everything seemed to go very well throughout the process – communication was good, invoicing, delivery – all organised. When I received my face masks however, the design was not what I had submitted. And this is where the disappointment started.
The owner decided just before printing that he could improve my design and totally changed it. Not only that, after my complaint, he did not want to reprint them free of charge, or offer a full refund. Because of COVID, I was very reluctant to put a bad review on their website or my social media as I did not want to destroy their business. This company broke its promise of providing CUSTOMISABLE face masks.
In January, I had a layover in Los Angeles on my way to a conference. I stayed at an Accor property, arriving early and bleary-eyed. On seeing my Accor member status, the young man at the desk immediately sent me to the cafe for a complimentary breakfast and coffee. He also gave me cocktail vouchers for later in the day, plus access to a rest room where I could freshen up from the long flight. The hotel looked after my bags, sent me off to do some shopping, then rang me to let me know my room was ready. Accor kept its promise.
