Creating Successful and Sustainable Multi-Business Collaborations

Franca Ciambella (B.Com., LLL (Canada), LLM (New York), LLM (Singapore)) is Managing Director, Consilium Law Corporation, Singapore. Trained in law and business in Canada, New York and Singapore, Franca has been a member of the Quebec Bar since 1990, and in 2010, was one of the first foreign lawyers to gain full admission to the Singapore Bar.

Her legal career of over 25 years encompasses 17 years of private practice, including being the Managing Partner of the Singapore office of Stikeman Elliott, (a Canadian based international law firm) and a Legal Associate at Norton Rose, seven years as General Counsel for Asia Pacific for Tyco International Ltd.(a US based Fortune 500 corporation), acting as a technical advisor on regional economic integration to high levels of government in ASEAN , carrying on a mediation practice, and since 2010, being the Managing Director of the Singapore based international law firm of Consilium Law Corporation (“CLC”). CLC represents clients doing business in emerging economies, including in south-east Asia and Africa, as well as in Canada, in diverse industries and sectors.

Franca’s subject areas of legal expertise are in technology law, fintech (blockchain/ICO’s), contracts law, corporate and commercial law, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, international trade and foreign investment law, with a focus on ASEAN, Canada and West Africa. Franca is accredited as a mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre and with the ADR Group in London, UK, and acts as a mediator in various areas. Having an undergraduate commerce degree and a certificate in business (from the US and Canada), she also serves as an advisor to multinational and blockchain businesses, and as a director on several boards of corporations and non-profit organizations. She has authored numerous legal and business publications, including a book entitled “Investments in South-east Asia: Policies and Laws”, as well as the Singapore chapter in “Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Regulation 2019”.

She contributes regularly to various chambers of commerce publications and websites, and guest lectures to MBA and law students at various universities.

Franca has acted as the Vice President of the Canada ASEAN Business Council for four years, and was one of its founders. She also sits on the board of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore, is a Vice President of the Malaysia Canada Business Council, and a member of the Singapore Academy of Law, the Singapore FinTech Association, Cryptofriends, CryptoClub, the Nigeria-Canada Business Association (Lagos Branch) and the African Society.

As a mentor to young professional women, she is active in “100 Women in Finance” (under the patronage of the Duchess of Cambridge), and as a past VP of the Canadian Association, organized charitable events such as the Terry Fox Run and the Canadian Maple Leaf Ball. In January 2018, she was awarded the Sovereign Medal by Canada’s Governor General for her volunteerism and leadership.

Franca is married to Chizoba Nanmchi and they have three sons.
